Cats are funny. They have different personalities just like people. I will probably share illustrations involving their antics from time to time. They are my furry children. Sorry, all you dog lovers. I’ve had dogs too, but none at the moment. With cat-established territory, introducing a dog in the mix would definitely kick the probability of story potential up a notch.

There is a curious routine that has been going on for a long time now. We have a cat fountain that bubbles water and I guess the thinking behind this creation is that cats like moving water . . . for drinking purposes only! The fountain didn’t cost much so we have gotten our money’s worth. Now it leaks and creates a tiny rivulet that meanders back and forth, picking up speed until it reaches the drain and disappears. The cats watch it intently, like they’d watch a mouse-hole. In fact, they wait in expectation for the fountain to be overloaded so they can have 15 seconds of pleasure. How very strange.

This miniature stream of water reminds me of the living water the Bible speaks about; the kind that you drink and never thirst again, as Jesus told the woman at the well (see the story in John, chapter 4).

I’d go for a glass of cool water right now, especially if I would never thirst again. I have easy access to a fresh supply, but what if I was riding the back of a camel through the desert or I lived on a different continent where water was scarce and precious. The reality of this story would be even more important, perhaps an issue of life and death.

Well, actually it is a matter of life and death.

Only by accepting Jesus and His gift of eternal life will we experience the reality of heaven where the streams of living water have become a crystal clear river of life flowing from the throne of God. On each side of the river grows a tree, which must be gigantic since its trunk is split and rooted on either side of the river. It’s heavily loaded with fruit. Ah, lovely. I’m a fruit lover so this will be great. You can read all about it in Revelation 22 if you like.

He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” John 7:38
